A new purpose-built private teaching pool adjacent to a Grade II listed building formerly known as Springvale, now a refurbished nursery.
The design dealt with the challenge of positioning the relatively large space required in a sensitive manner adjacent the heritage asset. The sloping topography and the proximity of the adjacent A14 dual carriageway helped form the L shape plan, protecting the entrance and shielding the site from noise, while maintaining a subservient scale to Springvale.
The building takes a traditional form and external appearance, whilst the internal space has a robust and commercial finish to suit the client’s needs.
The transition from outside into the reception is quite surprising, and provides visitors a bright and enlivened environment through the use of colour, lighting and furnishings.
