Hill House is a new dwelling overlooking the valley of Flowton Brook built in a modern farmhouse style which expresses the Suffolk vernacular. Adjacent Hill Farm, it replaces a 1960s building of little architectural merit, with one which is more appropriate to its setting and which draws on local history and character.
The design and mass of the new dwelling is a combination of two, one-and-a-half, and single storey elements, deliberately conceived to reduce the scale of the house so it integrates with its site and distant views.
In meeting the client’s aspirations for spaces and programmatic layout, the design provides a unique modern home for a growing family.
