-This Grade II listed thatched cottage in rural Suffolk has been transformed with two striking new single-storey extensions that marry contemporary design with centuries-old craftsmanship. Replacing unsympathetic later lean-tos, the new vaulted kitchen and light-filled office use traditional thatch, lead roofing, painted timber cladding and a black brick plinth to complement the original 17th–18th century cottage. Achieving planning and listed building consent required a careful balance of heritage sensitivity and creative ambition – blending thatch into a crisp, modern form that feels both fresh and entirely at home. Internal reconfiguration, including an enlarged first-floor shower room, enhances comfort and accessibility, ensuring Hobblers continues its story for generations to come.
